Personal background: I was born in Rhode Island but grew up in North Carolina. We have lived in the same house since 2006, which is also right next to where my parents work, so it's not very often we use our cars to get from place to place.
Professional: My first job was here at UNCC working at the IT helpdesk, which I did until May 2021. From there on out, I have been both a teaching and research assistant here.
Academic background: Honor Society student throughout high school, STEM concentrator and have always had an interest in programming.
Information/Technology background: I have been programming and using computers since elementary school. I began using the Sploder web platform at 10 years old to develop short interactive games and branched off from there.
Background in the subject matter of this course: I have been doing web development for fun since I was 13 years old, and started doing it semi-professionally when I was 16 during an internship with JavaScript WebExtensions. I have worked with jQuery, React.js, and multiple other MVC frameworks.
Primary Computer Platform: Xubuntu 20.02
Courses I'm taking and reasons
MATH 4163 (Modern Algebra) - I am very interested in the theory of abstract algebra and being able to deepen my understanding of many different areas of mathematics
MATH 3116 (Graph Theory) - Graph theory is an incredibly important topic in computer science and getting the necessary mathematical background to better understand the theory behind many of the algorithms that power our world is imperative.
ITIS 3135 (Intro to Web Applications) - I have always found myself doing web development one way or another, so being able to formalize my knowledge is something I am eager to do.
ITCS 4102 (Programming Languages) - Being able to learn esoteric programming languages and have a formal way to approach new languages is something of big interest to me.
Funny story or interesting item about yourself to remember you by:
A software I created to help me make memes ended up touched on in a Ph.D. journal without my knowledge.
Something else to share: I'm a big fan of punk music from the 70's and 80's.
